The Liberia Netherlands Business and Culture Council Holds Inaugural Business Seminar and Networking Event

Last week Friday, the 27th of October, the inaugural event of the LNBCC was held at the Liberia Chamber of Commerce at Capitol Hill in Monrovia.

The afternoon commenced with our Liberia Project Manager Theo Dennis who welcomed a number of company, NGO and government representatives. Mr Dennis first introduced Mr Tjalling Wiarda, GNBCC’s General Manager who held a presentation on the services the LNBCC was going to offer as a Membership Organization based on the successful GNBCC model from Ghana, subsequently he spoke about the challenges of doing business in Liberia compared to Ghana based on the World Bank Report of Doing Business 2017.

After his presentation the keynote speaker was Hon. O. Natty B. Davis, President/CEO for Devin Corporation and former Chairman of the National Investment Commission. He spoke on the seminar theme: The Need for Economic Stimulus – Interventions that the Government of Liberia can make to stimulate economic recovery. He indicated the strong need for full implementation of existing GOL policies with a view to successfully achieve the desired results. Hon. Davis cited Executive Order No. 89, recently issued by President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf to institute policy measures for stimulating economic growth by reducing administrative and business process requirements on concessionaires, small, medium-sized businesses and manufacturers.

The keynote speaker also indicated infrastructural developments on the regional integration front that have great potential for economic growth, including the West African Power Pool, the Ganta Highway Project, and the West African interconnecting road infrastructure system being developed. He pointed out the complexity involved in infrastructural projects regarding major changes that can occur in contract costing over the period of project development.  

After the event the guests were invited by Mr Theo Dennis to drinks and snacks where Mr Dennis announced the 1st Member: Mr Patrick John van Brakel of Wienco!
