Evaluation of Brief Successful Visit of Dutch Prime Minister to Ghana

On Thursday the 30th of November both the Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte as well as the French President Emmanuel Macron paid a visit to Ghana. This was a joint visit of these two European leaders who had extensive consultations with President Nana Akufo Addo of Ghana. For the Dutch Prime Minister it was his first ever visit to Ghana.

Although the visit was short, less than 24 hrs, the Dutch Ambassador Ron Strikker emphasized the importance: “In one week we had our new Minister of Foreign Trade and Development Cooperation Mrs. Sigrid Kaag as well as our Prime Minister coming both to Ghana directly after the EU Africa Summit in Abidjan, so the message is clear: Ghana matters. I anticipate more high level visits in the future to bring the ties between the two countries to a new level. Hopefully we would then, during the visits, have enough opportunity to organize a get together with the Dutch community at large here in Ghana. Last week visits were simply too short, I hope that everybody will understand that.”
