INTERNSHIP POSITIONS NEEDED - STUDENTS CALLING FOR HOST COMPANIES

GNBCC would like to promote the availability of interns from KNUST as a service to our Members.

The KNUST CAREER CAPTAINS PROGRAMME (KCCP) is an internship programme coordinated by the Students Representative Council (SRC) of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in Kumasi. The initiative through its Internships Directorate is seeking hosting companies for students this summer break.

The SRC's vision for this programme is to make sure most of our students get to intern and hence acquire skills necessary for the job market so they can effectively contribute to the nation's vision of a Ghana Beyond AID. Also, they want to tailor the needs of industry to that of academia so that we meet each other halfway and both sides benefit through this internship programme. They are planning to roll out the scheme during this long vacation of the University which starts from late May till early August. Per this call, they will like to link up with companies willing to host students interns  from the University.

The range of Students vary as they offer several programmes  and spreads across all the spectrums of the skill set any host company will require.  Should you decide to host an intern, please see below for further details.

INTERNSHIP GUIDE FOR PARTNERS

WHAT AN INTERNSHIP IS

• An internship is a supervised work experience that has intentional learning outcomes and goals for students. It focuses on personal career development and is completed during short term, the academic year, or summer.

• Internships consist of educationally enriching projects with outlined responsibilities, mentoring, evaluation, quality training, and supervision. Seventy-five percent of job assignment should relate to the student’s major or career interests and involve both creative problem solving and progressively increased levels of responsibility. A minimal amount of an intern’s assignments should include clerical work.

WHAT IS NOT AN INTERNSHIP

• An internship is not an unsupervised, part-time job with tasks unrelated to career experience and growth.

INTERNSHIP PROGRAM

Students enroll in a full-time internship during the summer break which lasts from mid-May to mid-August.

Students value the opportunity to explore work environments and career fields as they relate to their academic and extracurricular experiences.

The nature of internships may vary, and most will require that the student serve as an assistant to a person in the organization, as part of a special project within the organization, or in some combination of the two.

Internships in which students perform only routine tasks such as filing and photocopying are unacceptable.

Though start and end days of the internship is flexible, making students intern for a minimum of 8 weeks will be appreciated.
