Kick Off New Business Challenge 2018

This morning GNBCC organized the New Business Challenge (NBC)  Kick Off 2018 session at GIMPA near Achimota. The NBC team has selected 60 students for this 2nd selection moment; every student needs to find a partner and together they have to work on the different assignments of the participating companies. The companies together will select the best 20 students who will fully participate in the NBC Programme and travel to the Netherlands.

The Dutch Ambassador Ron Strikker officially welcomed all participants and opened the kick off session. After an explanation of the full programme of the day by GNBCC’s NBC project manager, Afke van der Woude (see picture), a presentation on Dutch Ghanaian Intercultural Experiences was held by Mr Terry Afram, MD of Jumia Food Ghana. The morning was closed of with a presentation of three NBC 2017 alumni about their experiences.

The New Business Challenge is an annual business case competition in which 20 Dutch and 20 Ghanaian students and young professionals work together for 2 months in mixed teams on business cases for 5 Dutch companies that are active in Ghana. It is organized by GNBCC, together with our partner Sustainable Motion, and commissioned by the Netherlands Enterprise Agency and the Netherlands Embassy in Ghana. The program includes a study trip to the Netherlands and Ghana, and offers great networking and learning opportunities.

For this year’s edition, 5 companies have formulated a business case regarding their activities or plans in Ghana. They need fresh and out-of-the-box insights and solutions of entrepreneurial students and young professionals to take the next steps! Delphy, Friss, Jolinaiko, Van den Bosch and MDF are the participating companies of 2018.

A well-balanced program is in place for participants to arrive at the best possible solution and to maximize their development. The teams go on two study trips full with trainings, workshops and fieldtrips. They will be coached and supported by experts and professionals. All teams present their solutions at the Residency of the Dutch Ambassador in Ghana during the study trip. An independent jury will choose the winning business solution of the NBC 2018.
