On the 19th and 20th of September, the Netherlands Africa Business Council (NABC) together with the German Afrika Verein are organizing Africa Works 2018 – with its theme: Future African Cities, a 2 day conference at the Van Nelle Factory in  Rotterdam, The Netherlands.

Main Theme: A group of 20 African National Governments reported spending US$ 42,2 billion on infrastructure in 2012. Infrastructure spend for sub-Saharan countries is expected to reach US$ 180 billion per annum by 2025. Sectors with the highest budget allocations were transport (36%) and energy (30%)

Sub-themes are:

  • Building Future African Cities as well as Powering Future African Cities
  • Selected Sectors within Building Future African Cities are infrastructure (roads, ports, railways); housing and commercial developments; financing urban developments; water and sanitation for cities
  • Selected Sectors within Powering Future African Cities are Energy (Oil & Gas), infrastructure and logistics; Energy (Renewable) infrastructure and logistics; Off grid & small grid solutions and Financing energy development

The objective for Building Future African Cities is to showcase a number of infrastructure, housing and commercial development, water, and sanitation capital projects in Africa, and provide a platform for suppliers, financiers, contractors, project developers and governments to interact and network

The objective for Powering Future African Cities is to highlight untapped opportunities in the energy sector in Africa, showcase some case studies for energy projects across Africa, provide a platform for suppliers, financiers, project developers and governments to network.
