Export Orientated Industrialization, Key To Ghana's Development

A business breakfast was organized by the Ghana Free Zone Authority last Tuesday, the 31st of July under the theme: Export Orientated Industrialization, Key to Ghana’s Development at the Golden Tulip Hotel. After the welcome statement of the Minister of Business Development, Hon. Ibrahim Awal, as well as a word of welcome from the Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry, Hon. Carlos Ahenkora, GFZA’s CEO Mr. Michael Okyere Baafi presented the advantages of being part of the Ghana Free Zone and announced that the Ghana Free Zone Act will be modernized. He also stated that it can be expected that in the near future, there will also be a criterion that a minimum number of Ghanaians needs to be employed.

A documentary was shown highlighting some of the successful companies who make use of the free zone status such as Ghana Nuts from Techiman (Mr. Obed Asante) as well as Viking Offshore (Mr. Johan Zietsman). It was stressed that Ghanaian companies should make more use of the Freezone status. The programme subsequently presented the Exim Bank which will be supportive of building exporters capacity by financing those companies with trade facilitation. Also, four companies showcased their satisfaction with the GFZA such as Octoglow, Blue Skies, GNBCC Member Cargill and HPW Fresh and Dry.

The audience was later invited for breakfast which at that time was more of a brunch!
