The Official Start of The 6th New Business Challenge Ghana!

The Official Start of The 6th New Business Challenge Ghana!

Last Friday the 6th edition of the New Business Challenge Ghana officially launched with the Kick-off! Forty motivated students and young professionals in The Hague and sixty in Accra had to convince one of the five Dutch-Ghanaian companies that they are competent to discover new business opportunities in Ghana.

The Kick-off was the official start of the New Business Challenge Ghana 2019. A unique business case competition where Dutch and Ghanaian students and young professionals work together in mixed teams on solutions for five companies. This year Allianz Insurance, Tempohousing Ghana, Solidaridad, Farmerline Ltd. and Closing the Loop are proudly participating in the New Business Challenge 2019. During the Kick-off, both in Accra as well as in The Hague, the participants worked in duos to convince the company representatives that they had to be one of the 20 participants who get the chance to join in this unique opportunity.

The kick-off in Accra was opened with an official welcome by his Excellency Ron Strikker, Ambassador of the Netherlands to Ghana. The Ambassador emphasized on how the New Business Challenge is a perfect example of how Holland and Ghana are growing together, by uniting the innovative minds of young Ghanaian and Dutch talents. He encouraged the participants to showcase themselves while taking advantage of the opportunity to explore the Netherlands through the New Business Challenge programme. After this warm welcome, MC Kojo Akoto Boateng connected the Ghanaian and Dutch participants through a live connection and they wished each other success for the election day. This call between Ghana and The Netherlands made the participants even more motivated to convince their company representatives that they needed to be selected. If they are selected, the will get the opportunity toble to meet each other in real life! Soon after the call, Terry Afram provided insight into intercultural experiences with his presentation and engaged the Ghanaian students and graduates with his lively anecdotes. NBC alumni also shared their previous experiences during the past NBC programs. During the rest of the kick-off, the participants formed duos, got to know each other better in a few hours and elaborated on a presentation assignment for their business cases.

At the end of the day, the duos presented their ideas and showed why they are qualified to work on the business cases during the Study trips in The Netherlands and Ghana. The company representatives were surprised by the high level of the ideas and quality of the talented participants, which made it difficult for them to select the final participants for the challenge. The day ended with drinks and the participants looked back on an exciting day where they learned a lot about each other and about the participating companies.

Meanwhile, the company representatives selected the 20 Dutch and 20 Ghanaian participants who will work on the business cases during the New Business 2019. We are looking forward to the Preparation Workshop on June 28th!
