In Memoriam Georgios Tsopanakis

Georgios Tsopanakis, Diplomat at European Delegation in Ghana, died on 21st of  May 2021 aged 45.

Suddenly and unexpected, our beloved friend and colleague Georgios Tsopanakis died in his sleep last Friday. Georgios was well-known in the expat community of Ghana. Most will know him through his work at the EU Delegation, where he had been working in the macro-economic and trade section for some years. Others through his earlier years in Ghana, when he was writing his PhD about the country or through his work with MSF in Congo. Many will recall his love of books and reading, whether it be on Greek antiquity, European culture or just the news in the Daily Graphic. He liked engaging with others on these topics too, often accompanied by a home-made cocktail from his mixology book or a cold beer at the local pub. All will remember him as the knowledgeable and kind diplomat with the distinct Hellenic accent. Georgios will be profoundly missed. He leaves behind two sons. We wish them and his family strength and courage in this difficult period.
