HBP Core Member, AB Farms Received The Presidents National Awards For Export Achievement

The Horticulture Business Platform (HBP) is a platform that supports the development of the Horticulture sector in Ghana; we would like to congratulate and celebrate AB Farms on receiving the President's National Award. His efforts and consistency in exporting different horticulture products has earned him an honour worthy of celebration. Yesterday, December 19, the Ghana Export Promotion Authority (GEPA) held a beautiful ceremony to honour the efforts of a young entrepreneur who is humble, hardworking, and committed.

AB Farms is a 2012-registered company that is fully owned by a Ghanaian. With more than 120 farmers in four regions—the Eastern, Central, Volta, and Greater Accra—they ran a successful out-grower programme. Together with their out-growers, they produce a variety of veggies for export. To augment what is harvested from the out-growers, AB Farms also runs a seventy-five (75) acre nucleus farm in Dago, in the Akuapem South.

The administrative office is next to Kas Estate in Ashalaja, Obakrowa. When it comes to the export of Asian vegetables with green labels, such curry leaves, turiya, tinda, and karela, ABFarms has become a household name. ABfarms also export green mangoes, shallot onions, French beans, Indiana okra, pawpaw, and chilli peppers to different markets in the United Kingdom (UK).

ABFarms has created a plan that allows them to sustain exports and year-round production. They are also committed and dedicated to growing and supplying tomatoes, watermelon, beans, eggplant, okra and chilli peppers for the regional Ghanaian market. Their dynamic group of forty-six (46) individuals continually upgrades their skill sets to satisfy industry standards and our customers' huge requests.  Additionally, ABfarms provides ongoing assistance to out-growers and the necessary support to temporary employees whose employment is contingent upon farm operations.  Every year, ABFarms generate and ship 600 tonnes of Asian veggies. They possess certification and authorization from the Ghana Export and Promotion Authorization (GEPA) and are associated with the Ghana Association of Vegetable Exporters (GAVEX).

Mr. Abraham Agbesi is the founder and managing director of ABFarms, a youthful, astute businessman. After working as a sales representative for a firm that grew and sold fruits and vegetables, he eventually founded ABfarms after gaining sufficient expertise and realising the time had come for him to go out on his own. AB Farm has significantly enhanced its production planning and export scheduling procedures through the Hortfresh project, which is funded by the Netherlands Embassy. AB Farms has created a culture where every production cycle is viewed as a "project" with distinct milestones and objectives from beginning to end in order to ensure long-term economic viability. AB Farms is presently a certified Ghana Green Label producer, having completed the entire training programme. The business is also headed towards achieving GlobalGap certification. These certificates attest to the company's use of high standards of environmental governance and the application of good agricultural practices in its production activities.
