Dutch Export Academy (DEA) Intermission Program: Day 2

On June 20th, we held the second intermission program of the Dutch Export Academy (DEA) at Tomreik Hotel. The day kicked off with an enlightening session by Ekow Akyin Kwofie, Trainer at MDF West Africa, and DEA Trainer/Coach, on effective negotiation, as well as key players and factors to consider as an exporter. He also provided an in-depth exploration of branding for export, highlighting the importance of market differentiation, consumer trust, perceived value, and cultural relevance.

Ekow discussed the relevance of market research and brand identity, stressing their significance in creating a brand that resonates with international consumers. He also covered the importance of packaging; touching on first impressions, brand communication, and functionality and compliance. He advised participants to use culturally relevant colors, fonts, and images, include essential information in the local language, and adopt eco-friendly packaging materials. The session concluded with tips on best practices for effective branding and packaging for export.

In the afternoon, we had the honor of welcoming Dr. Kweku Ainuson, GNBCC Board member and partner at AB Lexmall & Associates. Dr. Ainuson presented on preparing and entering contracts. He delved deep into legal terminologies such as offer, acceptance, and the core elements of a good contract. He advised the entrepreneurs to always negotiate each and every term in the contract, avoid blindly using online templates without legal advice, and be very active and involved in the entire process. Dr. Ainuson emphasized the importance of deliverables and timelines, ensuring that contracts specify the goods to be delivered, when they are to be delivered, and how they are to be delivered. He also stressed the need to study and pay attention to INCOTERMS, industry requirements, and compliance, and touched on dispute resolutions and ways to avoid them.

Participants found the presentations and sessions incredibly insightful, engaging in personal questions and illustrative examples. The day wrapped up with business coaching sessions, providing tailored advice to the participants.

A big thank you to our DEA coach, Ekow, and a special appreciation to Dr. Ainuson and the AB Lexmall & Associates team for their invaluable contributions.
