A Stronger Dutch- Ghanaian Horticulture Aliance in Motion

This week, a high-level Dutch horticulture business delegation—comprising 32 members from 19 leading agribusiness companies—arrived in Ghana for a 3-day trade mission, led by H.E. Marten Van den Berg, Vice Minister of Agriculture of the Netherlands.

Organized by the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Ghana, in collaboration with NABC and GNBCC, the mission underscores a renewed commitment to sustainable partnerships and private sector investment in Ghana’s growing horticulture sector.

From business matchmaking sessions to farm field visits in the Volta Region, and a revised MoU signing between the Dutch and Ghanaian Ministries of Agriculture, the mission offers rich opportunities for innovation, growth, and collaboration across the horticulture value chain in both countries.

At the official reception, which was moderated by Sheila Assibey-Yeboah, the Deputy Ambassador of the embassy, Wendy van Meel MBA, on behalf of the embassy bid a warm farewell to Bram E. van Opijnen, First Secretary at the Dutch Embassy in Ghana, for his outstanding work in Ghana’s Private Sector Development. GNBCC has been working with him throughout this period and thanks him sincerely for his four years of service and impact.

The mission reflects more than just trade—it's a shared vision. As highlighted in speeches by Vice Minister Marten van den Berg, Ambassador Jeroen Verheul, and Ghana’s Minister for Food and Agriculture H.E Eric Opoku, this partnership is grounded in knowledge exchange, inclusive growth, and sustainable development. With Dutch innovation and Ghanaian ambition, the groundwork is being laid for long-term transformation of the horticultural sector.
