Project Update: DEA Intermission Day 3

Last week, on June 27th, 2024, the final program for the DEA Intermission training was held at Tomreik Hotel, officially concluding the DEA Training in Ghana. The day began with an insightful session on Export Logistics presented by Bernice Aikins, a GNBCC Board member and Senior Commercial Coordinator at Portside Shipping in Tema, Ghana.

Bernice described export logistics and highlighted the parties involved, such as shippers, consignees, banks, insurance companies, freight forwarders, customs, ports, and shipping lines. She also provided essential steps for getting ready for export, highlighting the importance of understanding buyer and country regulations and appointing a good freight forwarder. She detailed the export process and emphasized the importance of the Letter of Commitment (LOC), which ensures that funds from exported goods are repatriated to Ghana. Participants found this session highly informative and appreciated the personalized advice given by Bernice.

After a short break, the program wrapped up with a session on revisiting the export plans of the participants, facilitated by DEA coach and trainer, Ekow Akyin. The export plan is a crucial document that outlines the strategy and journey for the entrepreneurs to export their goods, forming the foundation as they prepare to embark on the study trip.

Throughout the DEA training and intermission programs, sessions were designed to provide participants with the necessary resources, guidance, and guidelines for developing their export plans. Ekow and Vivian Dogbatse from MDF West Africa conducted coaching sessions to further guide participants on various elements of their export plans and other business areas.

During the final hours of the day, participants had the chance to review their efforts, receive feedback from coaches and colleagues, and refine their plans. Following this, they shared their evaluations of the Dutch Export Academy, expressing positive feedback on the program's impact on their businesses.

We extend our gratitude to Bernice from Portside and Ekow for their excellent facilitation of the final session. Congratulations to all participants for successfully completing the training in Ghana.

Stay tuned for further updates.
